Central da COP, an Observat\u00f3rio do Clima (OC) project that mixes climate news with soccer language, will make its debut at the Mangueir\u00e3o stadium in Bel\u00e9m, Par\u00e1, next Wednesday (5), during the first match between Paysandu and Remo in the final of the Paraz\u00e3o state championship. The action results from a partnership between Observat\u00f3rio do Clima and the Par\u00e1 Football Federation. <\/p>\n\n

At the entrance to the Mangueir\u00e3o, fans will pass by stands produced in each team’s color, where there will be explanatory materials and experts on duty, ready to talk about global warming. On the stadium’s big screens, a video produced by the Temple agency will be shown, with narration by Guilherme Guerreiro, an icon of sports announcing in Par\u00e1, explaining how the UN Conference of the Parties, scheduled for November in Bel\u00e9m, works. There will also be a distribution of Central da COP sticker albums<\/a> and the entry onto the field of children wearing uniforms with Central’s logos and the Par\u00e1 Football Federation. <\/p>\n\n

The action crowns Observat\u00f3rio do Clima’s project to take the debate on climate change to major popular events, as Joana Amaral, OC’s engagement coordinator, explains: “The effects of climate change affect everyone, regardless of whether they’re in the countryside or the city, whether it’s heat, drought, excess rain or lack of it. So there’s nothing better than using a stage that Brazilians love to talk about this issue: a soccer stadium.” <\/p>\n\n

The partnership is also celebrated by Ricardo Gluck Paul, president of the FPF: “Football, Brazil\u2019s greatest passion, has been taking on more and more social responsibility. That’s why we’re taking advantage of the derby between Paysandu and Remo, one of the most traditional in the country, to invite the public to participate more actively in the preparations for the Bel\u00e9m climate conference. After all, soccer also depends on the stability of the climate.”<\/p>\n\n

The event has the support of organizations that are part of Observat\u00f3rio do Clima, such as Imazon, IPAM, ISA, IEB and Engajamundo. <\/strong>The COP video will be shown again at the stadium during the second leg of the final, scheduled for next Sunday, May 11, also at the Mangueir\u00e3o. <\/p>\n\n
